TIME WELL SPENT :: A TRIBUTE TO THE PEOPLE & PLACE WE LOVE

There are a lot of places that I love. The hill that over looks the valley filled with horses right near our apartment, or the adorable cafe were Hugo proposed. And lets not forget the green house I often visit, and the lake we go to every summer with friends.  These places move my heart in a special way, they inspire me, and cause me to reflect. But above of all these places there is Guatemala. Sweet Guatemala.

I was blessed to have visited Guatemala for the first time when I was just a year old (obviously I don't remember it.) However growing up it was always apart of my life. My dad took mission trips from our church almost every year there. And a few years back I spent about four months there teaching english classes. Over that time Hugo and I meet and fell in love (another great reason to love Guatemala.) ;) After over a year of being away from our family, Hugo and I were so excited to return to our home away from home. We can not express what a blessing it was to be reunited with family again, enjoy time with our friends. soak in the sunshine, meet new people, and even go a few new places. So in honor of our adventure here are a few photos that we love, and a few of the highlights from our trip (in no particular order.)

No. 1  Celebrating our Marriage
A lot of our family was not able to make it to our wedding in the States. So Hugo's mom threw us a beautiful party in honor of our marriage. It was such a blessing to see familiar faces again, and meet some of Hugo's extended family that I never met before. It was a grand occasion filled with laughter, beauty, and some of the tastiest guatemala food.

No. 2 Visiting Grandparents
Hugo's Grandparents live in the southern part of Guatemala, where it's always warm, and something good is always cooking. Seriously I think we gained a few pounds while we visited them. Grandma makes some of the best food around. One of my new goals is to someday make caldo de mariscos (aka seafood soup) as good she does. Their home is very peaceful and we cherish their love. We even went on a mini mango picking adventure in the Guatemalan wilderness.

No. 3 La Familia
I don't know if you have ever heard of the card game "Up and Down the River." Well we have officially introduced it to Guatemala via our family. We had a total blast playing it together. The best part is it's nothing like when we play it at home. It's loud, craziness, and loads of fun. AHH how we love our family, they make our lives so wonderfully colorful.

No.4 Largo de Atitlan
Hugo and I took a day trip with some of our good friends to Lake Atitlan. Atitlan is surrounded by three volcanos, and is completely breath taking. My favorite part of this particular trip was exploring the lake via kayak (as you will see in the following photos.)

That's our trip, in words and pictures. We are blessed greatly. If you ever want a tour of Guatemala Hugo and I would be happy to be your guides. ;) Happy Monday ALL!
May it be filled with beauty, hot coffee, sweet friendship, and deep peace.

Meet Our Family. They're the BEST!
